Mind Body Wellness Therapy - Welcome
Introduction
I have worked for almost 20 years as a psychologist. I am passionate about helping people live happier and more fulfilled lives. Beginning therapy takes courage and a leap of faith. With effort and my guidance, you may be able to make very significant positive changes in your life. Rather than being selfish, I firmly believe that helping ourselves and focusing on our own healing will naturally bring benefit to our families, friends, and communities.
Psychotherapy
My approach to therapy is collaborative and flexible. I've heard about many bad therapy experiences. I value feedback and I pay attention to progress. If therapy is not working, I am happy to make changes in our approach, or make a referral to another therapist. My approach to therapy varies depending on the problem addressed, but in general I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy, and EMDR, which all have scientific support for their effectiveness. I also incorporate Psychodynamic approaches as needed. Please see my page of Websites about Psychotherapy for more information.
Specialities
I specialize in treating Anxiety, Stress, Issues of Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Eating Disorders, Depression, Identity Development, Life Transitions, and problems arising from Cultural Conflict. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Approaches, and EMDR, which have scientific support for their effectiveness. I also incorporate Psychodynamic approaches Guided Imagery as needed.
Length of Therapy
I am very experienced in short term therapy, and my goal is to help you make the changes you desire and “graduate” from therapy as quickly as possible. It is difficult to predict the length of time might will be in therapy. Sometimes people can accomplish their goals in as little as 5 or 6 sessions; sometimes the length of psychotherapy treatment will be 10-20 sessions; sometimes people attend therapy for several years. The differences depend on the problems presented. Some problems can be changed by focusing primarily on the present, but sometimes people also need to investigate their past. I aim to be efficient and effective in helping you change.
Professional Fees, and Payment
We will usually meet for one 45-minute session per week. My fee is $170 per 45 minute session. Payment by check, cash or credit card is due each session.
Insurance Reimbursement
I am not a member of insurance plans. If you plan to use your health insurance policy I will be considered an out of network provider. If you decide to use your insurance to pay for therapy, you will pay me directly at the time of our sessions and I will provide you with receipts, and I will fill out billing forms for you to submit to your insurance as needed. A full version of my policies is located on my Forms Page.
